John Purrier

John Purrier is Vice President of Open Source Cloud Computing within the HP Cloud Services business unit. He leads the technical teams that drive HP’s roles as both contributors to, and consumers of, open source projects in the cloud computing areas. His initial role was driving the adoption of OpenStack by the HP Public Cloud and other cloud initiatives across HP.

Additionally, John is a long time member of the governance board (Project Policy Board) for OpenStack, the open source cloud computing project.

Prior to joining HP, John was the Director of the OpenStack@Rackspace team with responsibility for the technical, QA, and release management teams contributing to OpenStack and managing the community. Previously John ran all the Engineering and QA teams responsible for the Rackspace Cloud. His first role at Rackspace was leading the team that built Swift, the object storage system that powers both the Rackspace Cloud Files product as well as one of the core OpenStack projects.

John has extensive experience in Linux, Ruby on Rails and other open source technologies. He spent several years at Microsoft and was responsible for delivering the Exchange Server product, LAN Manager Server, and the MSN Mobile platform. Additionally, he spent time at IBM, Teneros, and Global Market Insite building globally available web-based products.

John obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington. John also holds four patents relating to large scale web computing.
